Ladies Night V: A Sensational Finish for a WPT Special Poker Tournament
In the past installments of the Ladies Night series in the various seasons of the World Poker Tour, no champion has yet to repeat a successful championship run. This is exactly what Ladies Night IV defending champion J. J. Liu tried to do when she defended her title against a new set of super talented women poker players. In this noble quest, she prepared tremendously well for the competition, further developing her strategies as well as her playing styles.
On the other side of the story, a new breed of women poker superstars are trying to make a major impact on the game by challenging Liu for the Ladies Night V poker tournament title. Just like in previous events, the winner would immediately qualify for the much-anticipated WPT World Championship event at the end of the World Poker Tour Season 6. Moreover, the task proved to be a very tough one as six of the best and brightest female poker players are trying to achieve that particular goal.
Ladies Night V was comprised of the best women poker players available, with Liu heading the pack of super-talented and highly skilled poker individuals including Linda Johnson, Pamela Brunson, and Melissa Hayden. Along with Liu, Mimi Tran and Kristy Gazes complete the final roster of this prestigious poker tournament. After committing some very costly errors in the early rounds of the competition, Liu was unable to defend her title through early elimination.
With the defending champion's title hopes dismantled, the remaining contenders at Ladies Night V are trying their best to outsmart and outplay one another, in their quest to replace Liu as world poker champion. After a few more rounds, Hayden's title run also ended after committing some very untimely mistakes. In an event where weakness has no place, it is very important for the remaining contenders to remain focus as much as possible. However, even with this in mind, Tran's luck seemed to run out after she gets busted out from this special poker tournament. With three players out and two more two go, things seemed very crammed for the three remaining players in the crucial rounds. Because of this, one of them has to give way and that is Brunson, who made one crucial mistake after another.
As Johnson and Gazes brace up for another classic World Poker Tour finish, it is yet very hard to determine who would walk away with the Ladies Night V crown. Round after round, the competition came to an exciting finish after Gazes defeated Johnson with her excellent timing, strategies, and tactics. In the meantime, Gazes brilliant plays particularly in the latter rounds proved to be too tough for Johnson, helping her win the Ladies Night V title and a direct seat to the WPT World Championship poker tournament at the end of World Poker Tour Season 6.
